In the US what cities can tourists walk around at night in, safe from crowds of college drunks and thugs? I think Manhattan is one, any others? |
| Miami Beach anytime! |
Drunks in college dorms? I know that most guys in college are drinkers. I have a horrible fear of vomit which actually causes me to have panic attacks and can be very paralyzing. I know it sounds stupid, but it's true. I am wondering if anyone can tell me about life in dorms. Has anyone ever puked in your dorm/communal bathroom because they were drunk? Feel free to share any stories.
Also, at college parties, is there pretty much vomit everywhere since everyone seems to be a heavy drinker?
Apologies for the gross factor but I need to know this before I decide whether to live in a dorm or in an apartment by myself. |
| The only time I've seen a person vomit due to alcohol consumption was last year. My roommate decided to down a bunch of vodka. He got alcohol poisoning. I live in a dorm and people are only allowed to drink in their rooms here. |

Your fear is understandable. However, you cannot judge the majority based on a few. Dormitory life has it's benefits and disadvantages. It's most important advantage is that it places you right in the midst of everything. It keeps you close to class and computer labs which increases your ability to perform efficiently in class. In your particular case, another advantage to dorm life is the cleaning staff.
Unlike living at home, there is someone to keep the bathroom and hallways clean and sanitary. You, as a resident, are expected to do your share by keeping your room decent and sanitary. You may even be fined for leaving trash bags outside your dorm room, but your dorm isn't just left to irresponsible people. If you live on a dry campus there is regulation in place to cut down on things of this nature.
Try not to judge college life and parties based on the television standard. Not every college party has vomit. Some college parties don't have alcohol. You have to decide for yourself what college environments are best without letting your fears lead you. |
Why are an overwhelming majority of overweight college students female? Well, about 75% of all FEMALE college students are "Fat" or "Overweight." Only 11% of males are overweight.
I suppsoe it's because girls drink beer all the time and guys never drink. 80% of drunks at parties are female, another fact. Girls love beer, guys hate it.
Most weed smokers are female too. Are these the reasons why female college students are HUGE and the guys are not? |
| Contraception diverts the ovulation energy by turning to fat. Most of the girls that are fat use contraceptives. |
What do you think of your girlfriend working at a college bar? My long-term girlfriend wants to be a cocktail waitress at a local college bar. I think it's a horrible idea for many reasons. Most importantly, her safety. I don't want her to be objectified by rude drunks and face constant harassment (we all know that happens at bars). I know waitresses flirt with customers to get tips, which is totally fine, accept for the fact that her flirting in the past has gone a little too far and created trust issues. I really love this woman, but I don't know how to handle this situation! |
I would say it's up to her but if she has crossed the line of trust in the past she needs to realise it will take time to get that trust back. If your not comfortable with it then you should let her know. Tell her you think it may cause problems in the relationship further down the line and you really don't like the idea. She has to take your feelings into consideration, after all if she hadn't broken the trust in the first place this wouldn't be as much of an issue now.
good luck |
How do you do a College Character Analysis????? I am taking a College English course and my instructor wants be to do four character analysis's about people in a play called "Only Drunks and Guyren Tell the Truth" so how do you do this........any help at all would be appreciated thanks a bunch |
| Try using this chart from the link below. I give it to some of my students to help them start thinking. You can include any themes or motifs they may portray as well. I hope this helps. |
Is Glasgow Scotland safe for American college exchange students? My son is considering a semester there but some students from England warned that he would have to lie and say he was Canadian and could expect to be attacked if discovered. They said Glasgow was dirty and full of drunks pissing on the sidewalk. They told him guys would extend their hand to shake his then head-butt him. Do you have any first hand experience either way? |
he will be fine, trust me!! I am from Glasgow and have friends here who are from the states and have never had any problem!! The glasweigians are an extremely friendly bunch, we can get a bit political so he is likely to get a taken the mick out of for Bush etc but it will just be friendly banter, the scots esp glasweigians have brilliant chat and their sense of humour is second to none!!
Glasgow has a bad reputation which is not true, yeah there are drunk pissing in the street but what city doesnt, to be honest i saw more drunks pissing in the street in Washington DC than i have ever seen in Glasgow! I have lived here for 23 eyars and have never been headbutted (though it is famously called the glasgow kiss) If your son doesnt go looking for trouble then he should be fine! Some areas are a bit rough like the east end but it isnt half as bad as the reputation that precedes it!
it has wonderful cultural diversity and the student culture is second to none, we have great art galleries, theatres and an extremely vibrant live music culture and nightlife! It is a wonderful city with loads to offer!! I def reccommend he should come to glasgow he will love it as long as he has an open mind to a different culture and has a sense of humour and can accept people may poke fun at him for being american....all in a light hearted way of course!!
I have travelled the world and have never been in a more friendly city!! He will love it!! |
Did you make genuine friendships while volunteering? Im a college student and I want to do some volunteering to both help people and make friends. Do people make lasting friendships while volunteering? I know this sounds like a selfish question, but I'd really like to meet some nice, wholesome-ish people instead of all the college drunks that I'm stuck with in the dorms. |
| Yes. They are similar to you in their generosity. You have plenty in common and learn more about each other every day you work. We enjoy the group and see each other even days we do not volunteer |
Is it wrong to record drunks peeing in public? I live close to bars and every night the drunk college guys stumble to their cars, but stop to pee on the sidewalk or on a tree first. I feel like video taping it and sending it to the news, to embarass them. Is that wrong?! |
| No, its funny!!! |
Are women become more violent drunks than men? I try not to generalize people but the bar I used to work at in college constantly had skirmishes between women. There were the occasional men who would throw down but the overwhelming amount of trouble seemed to come from women. I used to think it was in reverse and sort of do, but my work experience has caused me to rethink this. I think it might just be the type of women our bar caters too. Single 21-40 working women. Seriously it is not fun breaking up cat fights. |
| Certain people (male and female) become violent when mixed with alcohol. Bars are seeing more women customers, so the number of women who are the type who can't handle their alcohol is on the way up too. There are still plenty of men who are pr*cks when they drink too. I think women are just catching up. |
